Featured Artist, Summer Exhibition 2008
Suffolk portrait and landscape artist John Glover was born in Scotland in 1945. John studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1963-1967 and at Jordanhill College of Further Education from 1967-1968. In 1992 he completed a BA Arts Degree with the Open University.
For 10 years he worked as a freelance book illustrator in London for such publishers as Hamlyn, Oxford University Press and Macmillan. Since 1980 he has concentrated on his love of portraiture.
John is a highly accomplished and experienced portrait painter. His subjects have included people from all walks of life, from grand official portraits of academic Masters or Chairmen of Councils to smaller, more intimate family groups or individual studies. His work ranges from portraits in which he has captured the character and dignity of age, to others portraying the innocence of childhood. He works in all mediums from pencil to watercolour, pastel to oils.
John is also an estimable landscape painter and has exhibited widely. "I love working out of doors and battling with the elements. My paintings capture windswept Scottish beaches, vast East Anglian skies, the glowing colours of France and the magic of Venice".
